Brave
Faces! It kept coming back to us (yes, I actually had
dreams about this wine!) after we tasted the 2004 at Two Hands Wines in Barossa last January.....it was easily
our favorite. Then last week, Two Hands owner Michael Twelftree had
invited us to lunch downtown, but we just could not pull away from the
store. So, it was very pleasant and flattering when Michael
took the time to drop in before noon for visit at the store and bring
along some of the stars of his large portfolio of "it's all about the
fruit" wines. Low and behold there was the Brave Faces
AGAIN!!! The 2005
vintage is a very stylish blend of 2/3
Shiraz to Grenache. Frankly, one sip and you should
be pondering how Two Hands has captured such decadent, lush,
"sweet" fruit expressions....a true head shaker! This wine is down right
"swoon-able". Yes, and then later in the day, the
wine begins to call to you....the fruit still
echoing! Like the the allure to an irresistably
attractive new car in the show room window..... it persists and
reminds you....tugs at you. You are hooked. You must have it!
Robert Parker must feel the same way..... his
latest notes just released last week.

A brilliant effort is the 2005 Brave Faces,
a small barrel-aged (20% new) blend of 70% Shiraz and 30%
Grenache. Flamboyant aromas of black and red fruits, spice
box, flowers, and toast are followed by a rich wine with loads
of texture and glycerin as well as a heady, full-throttle yet
velvety finish. It should drink well for a decade.
