JUST RELEASED -
2005 Casa Silva Carmenere Reserva -
Colchagua Valley, Chile - $13.75
The 2005's color is a very slight
shade lighter, but still has the saturated dark ruby-"blue" color
as the 2004.
On first whiff one is struck by the obvious
toffee, coffee, mocha, cocoa nose that is presently layered over the
youthful
fruitiness of the carmenere. I even joked
that maybe Scharffenberger (chocolates) is now doing the
barrels! I expect with a little
more time, these aromas will meld and integrate
with the wine. On the nose and palate, one can certainly
still identify the
carmenere's ripe fruit, and its
tell tale Bordeaux like herbs and
peppers. Hopefully, with a little time these will evolve to include
a more cedar-like quality. However, like most carmenere at this price tag, the wine
is "approachable" now, but should be consumed within 3 to
4 years.
Not to worry, the wine finishes strong with a
nice rumble of "welcome" tannins.
Like most things that gain in popularity, and
demand, the price tag has gone up a little. The 2004 vintage was
supposed to retail at $13.95, ...but I sold it at $11.95.
Now the 2005 is set to price at $15.50, but my
price to you on this offer will be $13.75......So I guess we are kind of back
where we started.
The first shipment arrives
this Friday. Another shipment is due to arrive in mid
April. Hopefully, there will not be another price
increase.

Escada d' Oro, Douro Valley (DOC), Portugal - Should be $14.50.....NOW
$12.95.....discounts to $11.39 a bottle on case
purchase.
Escada d' Oro comes from 30 acres of estate vineyard planted to Touriga
Nacional and Tinta Roriz (tempranillo). This vineyard is classified as A,
the most prestigious rating of the Douro DOC. From the exceptional
2003 vintage (declared for vintage porto), this is a ripe (14%
alcohol), but supple, dry red table wine certain to please. Aged
in French oak barrels and casks for nine months, this darkly colored wine smells
"sweet" and spicy, and is endowed with rich, black fruits and firm
tannins that make it ideal for the coming BBQ season. BRING
