Tattoo and Jet Lag!
July 20, 2007

I just wanted to let everyone know we have returned from our ventures in Spain and southern France.  The store has reopened and the tasting bar will be up and running tomorrow from Noon until 4 pm.  Contrary to rumors (my e-mail inbox is full of lot of laughs!),...  "NO" I did not return with a tattoo on my back of a cork screw in a bull's head.  My skin remains un-inked. Nor will I look pleasantly "refreshed", a reference that maybe we take these "trips" for a little comestic surgery.  My forehead can not afford a lift!!   These puffy eyes are from 9 hours of jet lag.

Just two wine items to mention for the moment that I am very pleasantly surprised to be able to restock, and remind you why we take our trips.

By customer request we found more of the 2005 Amisfield Pinot Noir from the Central Otago region of New Zealand (south island).  You'll recall this was one of our favorite wineries when we visited there in January of 2006.  I remember being served this wonderful vintage at the winery's new cellar door restaurant with the "chef's menu" served family style that included grilled salmon and leg of lamb.  Some of you Pinot fanatics will recall what a great value this wine represents at my $32.95 price tag (should be $34.95), and the Wine Spectator rated it 93 points.  See original posting at http://www.thewineconsultant.com/wine/1028 . You may reserve for the delivery arriving next Wednesday.
.
My mailbox had many requests for more of the 2003 Zuccardi Zeta that I wrote about shortly before we left for Europe.  This was the last arrival of great finds I had coming down the pipe from our trip to Argentina this last January.  I knew you would rave about this wine, as to date, I feel it is a strong contender for my top red wine of the year.  Zeta is a modern wine that successfully blends a selection of the best low yield Malbec and Tempranillo the Zuccardi family cultivates in the Maipu - Lujan de Cuyo region of Mendoza.  These two varietals will convert the most stalwart California Cabernet vets if they dare enlightenment.  Not yet rated, but this young wine has already acheived cult status in Argentina and awaits discovery here.  If you need a reminder, here are my detailed notes http://www.thewineconsultant.com/wine/1088.  You may order to reserve from the 14 wooden six packs I have arriving next Friday.  Same great prices at $45.95 a bottle, or $43.65 for three bottles, or $40.44 for six or more bottles.

Final thought......as much as we enjoy the travel, it is ALWAYS good to be back home!
