Rocking Z
October 18, 2007
........so the saga continues regarding the St.
Peter's Church zinfandel clone from Cloverdale. Late
last week I sampled another impressive zinfandel from a new producer in Sonoma's
Dry Creek Valley on Bradford Mountain. Shippey
Vineyard's premiere release of its 2005 "Rocking Z" shows off bright red cherry and
raspberry fruit, a slight bramble and minerality, with
engaging vanilla and baking spice nuances. A "lightweight" by
today's standards, the Z's alcohol measures in at an
unnoticable 14.8%. Then I asked owner Tim Shippey
if his vineyard happened to be planted to the St. Peter's Church
clone of zinfandel? He just stared at me, and said with a
bewildering smile....."Why yes, but we call it the
Cloverdale Church Heritage Clone!" "Ahhh!" I said, then guzzled a big
gulp and uncharacteristically ordered immediately. The Z
will be ready for you to try at the tasting bar this Saturday.
$24.50 a bottle, or 3 bottles at $22.95, or 6 plus bottles at
$20.95.
If none of the above makes any sense
to you? That is, you missed last week's e-mail on Ulises Valdez and his stunning 2005 Lancel Creek Reserve Zinfandel from a ridge
top vineyard in Occidental (Russian River Valley-Sonoma); then here is the link
to click and catch up on your "homework". We are currently
backordered, but keeping our fingers crossed more of this 100 case effort will
be made available to us.....even though we have currently pigged out on
over 20 cases. Time is of the essence! http://www.thewineconsultant.com/newsletter/328 - Orders are still being accepted at $35.95 a bottle or
$32.95 for three or more.
