Dear Wine
Friend,
I have a rule when I
taste. Don't tell me a score or published
rating! If you do, then I will automatically
disqualify the wine from my purchasing
consideration. The reasons are fairly
obvious, but foremost, I want to consider my
impressions of a wine's merits.
Sometimes the critics
are off the mark, and by a few "deduction"
points, a very good wine can end up in a "no
man's" land, where sales are meager, and
even the toughest wine salesman die like
dogs! You tell me? What is the
real difference between a wine scoring 90
points, or 88 points? You are correct if you
said "sales". But, what is the real difference in
enjoyment value? Honestly, even for the
most proficient palates the answer is
NONE!!
That said, these are
exactly the kind of wines I like to find for you when
the price is right!! In this case, the price for
the 2005 Sasso Insoglio was already an excellent
value. A SUPERTUSCAN priced at $30!!!.....By the
very same producers who make the legendary Ornellaia,
Masseto, Solaia, Guado al Tasso, Tignanello, et
al. COME ON...... We discussed this earlier in the
summer with Piero Antinori's new Napa Valley
Antica!
So here are the reviews
(below) without the numbers. And I have rescued
the remaining pallet (56 cases) from the "junk yard" for
you to enjoy!! Poured last week at the tasting
bar, it sold out immediately. Yes, I will pour it
again this Saturday.....ORDER
NOW TO RESERVE!
OH, I almost
forgot, my price for
the 2005 Campo di Sasso Insoglio del
Cinghiale-Tuscano?
$19.95 A BOTTLE! NO
LIMITS!
"Campo di Sasso is the new project
being headed by Lodovico and Piero Antinori, with the
consulting services of Michel Rolland. The 2005 Insoglio
del Cinghiale, a blend of 30% Syrah, 25% Merlot, 25%
Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit
Verdot saw 20 days of fermentation in stainless steel
followed by 6 months of barrique aging. It offers
attractive aromatics along with gorgeous layers of ripe
dark fruit, tar, spices and earthiness. Best enjoyed
over the next few years, it is a promising debut from
this new property. Anticipated maturity:
2007-2010." - Robert Parker's, Wine
Advocate.
"An intense young red, with violet,
black fruit and light toasty oak character on a medium
body, with fine tannins and a medium, espresso-tinged
finish. Drink now." -Wine
Spectator
