NOW $79.95 a bottle!!  FOR REAL!!

Dear Wine Friend,

When I start flashing the E.W.A. sign, it is time to take notice!  Emergency Wine Alert!

I think one of my import/distributors just goofed!!

First, the 2005 vintage for Clarendon Hills is not supposed to be released in the US market until all of the 04 is completely sold out. I know, because we have been waiting patiently since we spent two hours barrel tasting this superlative vintage on our visit to the winery back in January of 2006.  Late today I received a heads up some 05 Clarendon Hills Hickinbotham Syrah had landed, So we sent someone out to the warehouse to quietly do a physical count, and sure enough, there are 29 six packs of this amazing wine just sitting in a dark corner.  I am psyched!!

Second, the list price is $110 a bottle (Robert Parker), although the Wine Spectator shows it at $100 a bottle.  Looks to me like someone has keyed in the price incorrectly!  OK!!  How does $79.95 a bottle sound?!?!?  That's 20% OFF at the very least!!  Let's just take delivery, and then the celebration can begin!!

Clarendon Hills produces world class wines from old vine vineyards in the McLaren Vale region of Southern Australia.  This is "new world" wine produced by traditional, non-intervention winemaking.  Learn why owner-winemaker Roman Bratusiuk's Clarendon Hills is one of my very favorite producers....anywhere!  Go to Clarendon Hills

Barrel Tasting at Clarendon Hills - January 2006,

Renee and I flank Roman Bratusiuk (in shorts) and his assistant while barrel tasting at Clarendon Hills in January 2006.  The 2005 Hickinbotham Syrah was a stunner!!!.

REVIEWS & RATINGS

2005 Clarendon Hills Hickinbotham Syrah

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - $110

"Backward, but a gorgeous example of classicism, purity, and super-intense fruit balanced by good acidity and freshness, is the tremendously intense, powerful, full-bodied 2005 Syrah Hickinbotham. This full-throttle red requires 4-5 years of cellaring, and should last 25-30 years." Barrel Sample 94-98 points (Oct 2006)

"The 2005 Syrah Hickinbotham Vineyard is opaque purple-colored with aromas of crushed rocks, toasty oak, tar, licorice, bacon, blueberry, and blackberry. Muscular and large in scale, it will profit from a decade of cellaring and drink well through 2030". -
97 points (October 2007)

Wine Spectator
- $100

Big, rich and juicy, with plum, blueberry and a range of sweet spices. The fine tannins wrap around the generous mouthful of flavors, which linger powerfully. A touch of coffee adds interest, and the finish just doesn't quit. Best from 2010 through 2020. 500 cases imported." (HS)  95 points (October 2007)

HOT TIP!!

We just spent last Sunday and Monday nights in Yountville, Napa Valley.  Is there any place on earth with so many Michelin starred restaurants within a few feet of one another?   In the past we have stayed at the Villagio.  But, if you want a little Euro ambiance, reserve one of the five garden cottage rooms at the Petit Logis . Hidden away, and nestled behind the Bouchon Bakery on Washington Street, these spacious and charming rooms offer all the amenities, tranquility, and privacy one could want.  And the location is the perfect short walking distance to all the restaurants.  In fact, Petit Logis is so close to everything, the aromas wafting from the bakery, and nearby restaurant wood burning ovens will drive your appetite crazy!  Recommend Room #2.  Special price now Sunday through Thursday for only $150 a night!!

Yountville restaurants we highly recommend!
