Very Interesting! One of the Montalcino’s highly regarded producers, Castello Romitorio sways from the traditional focus on Brunello (Sangiovese), to produce this Super Tuscan Rosso IGT which is a very unusual blend of equal parts Petit Verdot and Syrah. Bordeaux meets the Northern Rhone. IT WORKS! The result is a perfectly balanced, beautiful and bold statement made by both varietal components finely meshing, while neither dominates the other. Yes, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Tightly spaced, dry farmed vineyards. Fruit is hand picked and sorted. 12 months in new and used French oak. Unfined and unfiltered. 14.5% alcohol. A very enjoyable and serious mouthful now, but cellar worthy! Difficult to find this kind of quality/value ratio at $24.95 a bottle.
“A polished, sophisticated version, boasting violet, black currant, blackberry, graphite and toasty oak aromas and flavors. Impeccably balanced and approachable now, yet should develop for a decade or more. Petit Verdot and Syrah. Best from 2021 through 2035. 2,500 cases made.” 94 points, Wine Spectator (12/31/2018) – BS
