Waterfall Cellars is Boris Guillome’s Napa Valley based label, whose wines are sourced and produced by one of the region’s most renown women winemakers, Helen Keplinger (Wine Spectator’s 2012 “Winemaker of the Year” – Grace Family, Bryant Family, Scully, Kenzo, and her own label).
Last year the 2013 Waterfall Aglianico El Dorado was a startling discovery, and a great opportunity for the consumer to become acquainted with this southern Italy varietal. However, this time the obvious standout is the newly released 2015 Waterfall Proprietary Red Blend from Sonoma and Napa Valley which garnered our foremost attention as a serious value, and a wine that exemplifies Keplinger’s deft winemaking skills. Perfectly balanced, Waterfall’s new red blend is a masterful job sourcing and melding Cabernet Franc (50%) from a tiny, low yielding, dry farmed, 80 year old vineyard near the village of Glen Ellen in Sonoma with one of Helen’s secret Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon sources (50%).
Seriously gorgeous aromas of floral spice, black fruits and blueberries jump from the glass! The wine is silky smooth and simply glides across the palate while oozing more of what you have just inhaled. The tannins are finely knit and totally integrated, and while barely perceptible, still lend balance and help extend the finish. Only 140 cases were produced and we are going to get on this NOW while the gettin’ is good! TOTAL VALUE! SHOULD BE $39.95 – NOW $33.95 A BOTTLE!!!
