The creation of AldenAlli wine began with the convergence of friendship, families, and culinary passions. Both the Dan Kosta (Kosta-Browne) and the Emeril Lagasse families have a long history with one another and with Pinot Noir. Dan was introduced to Burgundy wines at the young age of five, and an abundant array of Pinot Noir in the Lagasse restaurants has long been a favorite with diners.
Limerick Lane is a thirty-acre estate located in the far northeastern corner of the Russian River Valley. Dan Kosta has been in love with this vineyard since first tasting the wines in the late 1980s. Since 2015, the partnership has been lucky enough to procure just a couple of tons per year from friends and Limerick Lane proprietors Jake and Alexis Bilbro. Most believe Limerick Lane is one of the finest “Grand Cru” Zinfandel vineyards in the world. The 2016 version is exemplary. Medium bodied, but with racy acidity, this Zinfandel is a Pinot Noir lover’s dream. Elegance is a signature of this great vineyard, with bright red raspberry and fresh stone fruit and a clean, bright finish. Not jammy, ripe, or over done. Rather refined and restrained with great purity and transparency. Supple with a smooth, velvety texture. 14 months in 25% new French oak by Boutes and Rousseau coopers. 14.3% Alcohol.
“Medium ruby-purple, the 2016 Zinfandel Limerick Lane has a broody, youthfully shy nose of black fruits, opening up to suggestions of blue fruits, earth, savory spices and dried flowers. Medium-bodied, it’s knit together with grainy tannins and gives up fruit and spice layers in the mouth (reluctantly at this stage), with a long finish. Give this some more time in bottle. 94 cases were made. 2019-2027” – 92+ points, Wine Advocate Erin Brooks – ERIN! YES, “Give this some more time in the bottle.” I WOULD TRY AGAIN!
