First produced in 2001, the Cumberland Reserve is a masterful blend of the winery’s finest barrels sourced from its biodynamically farmed vineyards in the Dundee Hills, Chehalem Mountains, Ribbon Ridge, and Yamhill Carlton AVA’s. The intent is to express the Willamette Valley’s regionality and Bergstrom’s winemaking style; balance, fresh fruit character, spiciness and earthiness. The Cumberland Reserve requires 5 months of monitoring and multiple tastings of the winery’s best barrels, before a final blend is determined.
The Cumberland Reserve is a blend of whole cluster and destemmed Pinot Noir fermentations aged 12 months in 10% new French oak barrels.
….dark ruby in color and very old school Oregonian with bright crunchy fresh fruit, earthy intensity and reductive flintiness, mushroom-laden and almost Barbaresco-esque aromatic profile with dried herbs, flowers, meat and pipe tobacco. It has succulent acidity and really fine tannins and the aromatic complexity of this wine unfurls continuously in the glass building in seriousness and deliciousness with each minute it is open. The wine will really be a pleasure to watch over the next 20 years and begs to be paired with mushrooms, game, cheeses, rich sauces…..” – Bergstrom.
Floral and expressive raspberry and violet aromas open to polished and delicately layered pomegranate, anise and spice flavors that finish with refined tannins. Drink now through 2023″ – 91 points, Wine Spectator
