Known as the “Empire of Garnacha”, the region sits at the foot of the Moncayo Mountain at about 2,000 feet above sea level on limestone soils. A Juan Gil family (Jumilla) project with local viticulturist Jordi Flos. 100% Garnacha from organic and dry farmed 30-50 year old bush vines. Hand picked and sorted. Indigneous yeast fermentation in open stainless-steel vats with followed by malolactic and 15 month aging in French oak barrels. Just 500 cases produced.
This ruby/purple colored wine offers finesse and elegance in addition to moderately intense aromas of black cherry jam-preserves spiked with eau de vie, cigar box, anise, and subtle oak spice. Never heavy, in fact restrained when compared to other wines from this very warm region…..most likely influenced by limestone’s ability to retain moisture. Exceptional purity, balance and length. Great value!
