LAST CALL! FINAL 12 BOTTLES!
With a very impressive debut 2015 vintage, now Castello Romitorio is turning heads with this new Il Toro release which has received a 95 point rating from Wine Advocate.
Unique and very Interesting! One of the Montalcino’s highly regarded producers, Castello Romitorio sways from the traditional focus on Brunello (Sangiovese), to produce this Super Tuscan Rosso IGT which is a very unusual blend of equal parts Petit Verdot and Syrah. Bordeaux meets the Northern Rhone. IT WORKS! The result is a perfectly balanced, beautiful and bold statement made by both varietal components finely meshing, while neither dominates the other. Yes, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Tightly spaced, dry farmed vineyards. Fruit is hand picked and sorted. 12 months in new and used French oak. Unfined and unfiltered. 14.5% alcohol. A very enjoyable and serious mouthful now, but cellar worthy! Difficult to find this kind of quality/value ratio at $24.95 a bottle.
“A blend of Petit Verdot and Syrah, the 2016 Il Toro is a muscular animal that boldly exposes dark fruit, blackberry preserves, dried cherry, spice, leather and spicy cedar. The blend is unique because it pairs the volume and spicy intensity of Syrah with the density, darkness and structure of Petit Verdot. Softer aromas of sweet fruit cede quickly to tar, grilled herb and rich plum. Pair this wine with grilled T-bone steak. This is a bold and expressive wine that opens a new chapter for Filippo Chia and his talented team. 2019-2028” – 95 points, Wine Advocate, Monica Larner (July 2019)
