Well, time to up your rating on this one Mr Mark Squires (see his review below)! You predicted correctly….”when it opens up….it won’t take long, and even a few months will help”! Should be at least 93 points now! Super nice, smooth and delicious Tinto for the money!! Low price will fool you! Will continue to improve with age. Layered, complex, and very nuanced. Exciting to drink! Very versatile! Dress it up with Beef Wellington or play casual with spicy steak faitas!
Dark berries, leather spice, fennel-anise, dusty minerality – tannins are integrating on the long extended finish. Balanced blend of three Douro Valley classic varietals. Ripeness kept in check by fresh acidity.
“The 2016 Tinto is a roughly equal blend of old vines, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, plus 20% Tinta Roriz and 5% Sousão, all aged for 15 months in well-used French barriques. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. Showing good fruit and better structure, this is aromatic and flavorful as it airs out. It is a bit tight just now, showing some tannic pop. It is also enticingly fresh, with the good acidity cutting the fruit. When this opens up—it won’t take long, and even a few months will help—it should be a very nice regular Tinto. 2018 – 2027” – 89 points, Wine Advocate, Mark Squires (August 2018)
“Boysenberry, plum and mineral notes have a nice purity in this medium- to full-bodied red, with spice and dried herb details on the crisp, clean finish. Grippy tannins. Drink now through 2024.” – 89 points, Wine Spectator (May 2019)
