If you long for great Burgundies that also have the generosity of Rhones, Saouma wines are for you!

As Rayas was under the legendary Jacques Reynaud, these are wines of a singular style with length, layers of flavor and balance to blossom with age like no other Chateauneuf du Pape.

According to Mounir Saouma, Omnia represents the “mosaic” of soils that make up Chateauneuf-du-Pape. They own parcels in all five villages of Chateauneuf, covering 9 different soil types and including all 13 grape varieties. The vineyards can be quite varied, from the hillside vineyard at La Pointu, to a parcel of vines at Esqueirons planted to white limestone, or the plot at La Bigote which is covered in Chateauneuf’s fabled galets roulés. For Omnia, each site adds its own character to a complex wine that has vaulted to the top tier of the Chateauneuf pyramid.

The Saoumas age Omnia in a variety of vessels, from wooden foudres and cement tanks, to high-tech ceramic eggs. The wines are never racked and only treated with sulfur after 18 months on the lees, and even then they are only sulfured once.  The 2016 cuvee consists of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre. Vinified with whole clusters.

“Sublime, with a beguiling mouthfeel to the layers of cherry puree, steeped plum and warmed raspberry coulis fruit flavors, melded with rooibos tea, bergamot, incense and jasmine notes. The long finish features subtle minerality and remarkable persistence, seeming to move with grace. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2021 through 2045. 125 cases imported.” – 97 points, Wine Spectator  — JM

“Limpid violet. Displays seductively perfumed raspberry preserve, exotic spice, and lavender oil qualities on the nose, along with hints of incense and smoky minerals. Juicy, seamless, and energetic on the palate, offering intense red berry liqueur, fruitcake, and floral pastille flavors that show outstanding clarity and spicy cut. Fine-grained tannins frame a strikingly long, penetrating finish that shows superb red fruit- and mineral-driven persistence.” 96 points, Vinous – Antonio Galloni
