White Rock Vineyards produces elegant and balanced Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a “Claret”, and Chardonnay sourcing only the fruit from its estate vineyards. The 36-acre family run compound is situated in its own small valley in the southern foothills of the Stag’s Leap Range on the historic site of White Rock Vineyards, which dates back to 1870. Committed to sustainable and natural farming, no herbicides, pesticides or fumigants are ever practiced. An integrated soil management program is employed to ensure the health and fertility of the soils, including native cover crops, hand hoeing and mulching around the vines.
A traditional Bordeaux blend of Napa Valley 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. 22 months in French oak (32% new). Alcohol weighs in at 14.4%. 580 cases.
The 2016 vintage of Claret is a perfect blend of dense fruit, spice and refined tannins, reflective of the vintage’s long growing season and the estate’s mineral intensive terroir. On the nose we find cherry, blueberry and raspberry; and notes of brambly fruit, Moroccan spice and graphite that yield to a lush, velvety mouthfeel and a long finish. Drinking beautifully now and will only improve with age. ––C. Vandendriessche, Winemaker
