2017 Arcangeli Pinot Noir, Split Rail Vineyard, Santa Cruz Mountains – Tasted on Wednesday, we continue to be smitten with every vintage of this very seductive, high elevation Pinot Noir since we declared the 2014 our favorite Pinot Noir of the year. Not alone, last year one of our customers was so compelled, he purchased 10 six packs of the 2016. Not published yet, but leaked, Wine Enthusiast has rated the 2017 Split Rail at 94 points, the very same rating received for the 2016 by Wine Advocate. No other ratings to report at this time. The vineyard’s one acre parcel of Pinot Noir is a former David Bruce source and known for its Grand Cru DNA (Mt. Eden clone from Paul Masson smuggled suit case cuttings).
My notes – “Woodsy forest floor aromas with high toned red raspberries, ripe cherries, and pomegranate. Floral-rose petals. Orange zest. Cinnamon spice. Medium bodied, supple and glossy texture, fine knit tannin. Acid synergy extends the vapor trail finish.” Winery’s price is $49 – Our price is $46.95 or 6+/$43.95
