Morgan Twain-Peterson no longer lives in the shadows of his famous winemaker Dad, Joel Peterson founder of the iconic Sonoma Zinfandel producing Ravenswood Winery. In just a matter of ten vintages, Bedrock Wine Company has carved out a niche for itself by specializing and sourcing from historic ancient vineyard sites. The field blend Bedrock Heritage Red 2016 was Wine Spectator’s #10 Wine in the annual 2018 Top 100 Wines. With the exception of the 2500 case production of Bedrock’s Old Vine Zin, Morgan’s wines are very difficult to obtain unless you are lucky enough to be a mailing list customer. Stay tune! The 2017 Nervo Vineyard and 2017 Under the Mountain Heritage Wine will be arriving shortly…..with the 2017 San Lorenzo on the horizon.
Evangelho is one of our store’s favorite and most fascinating field blend vineyards. You may remember excellent vintages from Precedent and Neyers. Recently purchased by Bedrock, own-rooted on forty-foot-deep banks of beach sand alongside the Sacramento River Delta, Evangelho is a totally unique site. Planted in the 1890s, the vineyard is a viticultural survivor—wedged between a PG&E plant, a Burger King, and a motel that rents rooms by the hour. A field-blend of Zinfandel, Carignane, Mourvedre, and others, the wines are fresh, bright, and typically have some of the lowest pHs of any of the Bedrock wines.
“Distinctive, showing briary complexity, with deep and expressive smoky anise, black cherry, black olive and green peppercorn flavors that build toward refined tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane and Mataro. Drink now through 2026. 600 cases.” 94 points, Wine Spectator (2/13/2019) T.F
