Some of you may know Matt Williams who owned Cafe Zorro in Loomis for many years. Now he caters our of his commissary kitchen in the Gourmet Garage, practically next door to the Loomis Basin Brewery in the industrial area of the township. Always into fine wine and food (actually Matt used to call on me many years ago, when he was a sales rep for one of the state’s larger importer and wine distributors) and a CAL Berkeley graduate, Matt has partnered with his long time ski bum friend Jeff Restel to make this delicious value dry white from the El Dorado-Sierra Foothills.
Jeff Restel received a degree in Viticulture and enology from UC Davis, and then earned experience with stints at Schramsberg, Merry Edwards, Long Meadow Ranch, and assistant winemaker at Dutton Goldfield, and head winemaker at Sugarloaf Custom Crush. He has returned to Dutton Goldfield where is now the head winemaker there.
Matt recently brought a bottle in of their 2017 Viognier for my opinion. Apparently, the wine has been very popular in some local restaurants by the glass, and I can understand why!! Crisp, clean, dry and a refreshing! Just perfect for a summer sipping out on the patio! A perfect little value!! Essence of fresh sliced ripe pear and nectarine aromas and flavors. Take advantage of this special low pricing……only about 20 cases available. End of vintage.
