I know you “thirst” for more of the powerful, thrilling Priorat wines like the recent Black Slate renditions we have sold this year. Here is a new discovery for us that fills this niche! Just a few weeks ago I was very fortunate to sample and then procure the importer’s few remaining six packs of the massive 2009 Santbru from Portal de Montsant. Primarily old vine Carignan, the insanely good 2009 Santbru was instantly devoured by “us” (except for one bottle I will pour tomorrow afternoon at the tasting bar), so I was not surprised to learn from the importer that Santbru is the winery’s top-tier, signature “Priorat”, but only produced in the best vintage.
The GOOD NEWS! The equally magnificent 2012 Santbru (WS 93 points) has just been released, and I have about 90 bottles arriving next week! Aged for 16 months in French oak, this dark, complex wine is a juicy, dense, buxom blend from dry farmed, old bush vines of Carignan with 15% Grenache. Alcohol is 14.5%
