The Lirac AOC located in the southern Rhône situated on the right-bank of the Rhône River about 15 kilometers north-west of Avignon and 11 kilometer south-west of Châteauneuf du Pape. The vineyards spread over four communes in the Gard region and represent 715 hectares. It is one of the rare appellations in the Rhône to produce red, white and rosé wines.
A new cuvée from Laurent Brechet’s organically farmed vineyards in Lirac, Le Temps is made from 30 year old Grenache bush vines, with a tiny inclusion of Syrah, growing in a combination of red clay, limestone and galets. Fermented in concrete tank, this silky and seamless expression of Lirac is aged for 18 months in used 600L French oak demi-muids.
“Suave, with a rich and silky feel that allows gorgeous raspberry and plum puree flavors to glide through unencumbered, flashing alluring spice and tea notes along the way. Reveals a light mineral echo at the very end. Drink now through 2022. 40 cases imported.” 92 points, Wine Spectator — JM
