Once we tasted the Rosso di Montalcino 2016 vintage from Gianni Brunelli we KNEW GREATEST would be stamped forever on the Brunello! And we were correct! 100 points rating from Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner!!
All organic and sustainable farming practices!! Everything is accomplished manually by hand, including the fertilization of each individual vine. Laura’s husband Gianni died back in 2008, and she took the reins without missing a beat! This 100% Sangiovese Grosso is produced from one hectare of 60-70 years old vines, planted to Galestro, calcareous marly schists, and white clay soils all located at 250-500 meters above sea level.
“The Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a stunning wine with so much vitality, life and energy. It shows a brazen level of clarity and frankness. If you seek the truth in Sangiovese, I think you find it here. This Brunello unfolds to lasting purity, elegance and length. It is luminous and radiant. When tasted next to the 2015 Riserva from this estate (something I did on multiple passes), I continued to recognize the lifted and exciting personality of this wine next to the broader and heavier character of the Riserva. This Brunello shows extreme precision and focus, both to the bouquet and the mouthfeel. Wild berry, blue flower and licorice converge to perfection, and it’s impossible to beat this quality at this price. 2024-2045” – 100 points, Wine Advocate, Monica Larner (November 30, 2020)
