Description

The 2019 vintage of this wine has just been named Gambero Rosso’s “White Wine of the Year” for 2023.  Of course this is the 2016 vintage we offer.  There is no sight of the 2019 on the horizon.  However, know that along with the 2019, this 2016 Riserva has also received Gambero Rosso’s grand and coveting Tre Bicchieri award (reference the 2019 edition).  The San Paolo di Jesi Riserva Classico is only produced in the finest vintages.

“Expression of the vineyard on Monte Follonica, in the municipality of San Paolo di Jesi. A reserve produced only in the best vintages. It smells of candied citrus and tropical fruits, jasmine and aromatic herbs. The mouth is full, fresh, with the classic extension and the savory trail that the vineyard of Monte Follonica can give to this wine every year.”

“Fruit for this Riserva comes from biodynamically farmed vines in the sandstone soils of Pievalta’s San Paolo vineyard. It opens with scents of pressed flowers and lemon thyme that lead into flavors of ripe apple, tart lemon and tarragon. Brisk acidity weaves through the creamy texture, combining richness and liveliness in a harmonious finish.” – 92 points, Wine & Spirits

“A spicy blend of peach skins, papaya, lime and dusty dried flowers rises up from the 2016 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Riserva San Paolo. It’s incredibly soft and pliant in feel, with a burst of inner sweetness which is quickly contrasted by sour citrus and bright acidity. There are depths of ripe apple and green melon here, all tinged with saline-minerals, as this tapers off with energy to burn, mouthwatering and literally buzzing with residual tension. There is so much to like about this potent yet high-energy Verdicchio Riserva, and it’s all accomplished through refinement carried out completely in stainless steel.” – 92 points, Vinous Media

“Aromas of chamomile, ripe orchard fruit, chestnut honey and hazelnut shape the nose. The aromas carry over to the medium-bodied palate along with mature yellow apple, marzipan and citrus. It closes on a mineral note.” – 90 points, Wine Enthusiast
still fresh, nice lemon-citrus curd, spice and hints of orange blossom in slightly lees aromas.   Good, full texture from extend lees contact…..some wanted salinity.  Long tapered finish!
