Produced from a single plot of Garnacha rooted in white clay and limestone soils in the high-altitude Figuera zone of the Montsant appellation surrounding Priorat. Fermented first whole berry in open top 500 liter used barrels, then after a long slow maceration of 35 days, the wine is moved to 2500 liter foudres for 18 months of refinement. A rare and limited husband and wife Rene Barbier Jr (Mogador) & Sara Perez (Martinet) joint venture. Venus is designed to show off the feminine nature of Garnacha, less structured with exacting acidity.
“The phenomenal 2016 Venus de La Figuera has the sharpness of the limestone soils and the acidity of the year. They got the full crop from the vineyard and produced 3,000 bottles, which is lucky, as there is more quality and quantity. This is tight and austere, more serious than the previous two years (and they tell me it really takes off in 2017, so I look forward to tasting it!). I found crunchy Garnacha with citrus freshness. Amazing Garnacha from La Figuera. 2019 – 2026” – 94 points, Wine Advocate (LG)
