Description

I can’t believe we have been able to score a couple of more six packs of Quinta do Noval Vintage Porto 2017!!!  When I sold our last bottle from the store’s “f-u-room” earlier in the Fall I shed a few tears as I never thought we’d be able to procure further inventory.  This is truly a legendary classic in the making……perfect for gift giving to the collector, or to drink now if you like to press the pedal-to-the medal!!   Price has not really changed at $149.95 a bottle.  See the fabulous review ratings below – WS98, WA97

So if you have a fire pit….like cigars, or dark chocolate s’mores (lol!)…..this is the perfect time of year.  Personally, I enjoyed with walnuts roasted in brown butter with cracked black pepper served with a perfectly ripened Stilton cheese…..Rogue Creamery blues will do just fine too after dinner!

Remember, with this kind of port, you don’t need to drink the bottle immediately and at once.  When I was working in restaurants, we would decant to separate from the sediment.  Rise the bottle a few times to remove any lingering “crust”.  Then return the port to the bottle, cork and refrigerate.  Pour over the next couple of months when desired.

“This is well-packed, offering the vivid plum, boysenberry, cassis and açaí berry fruit profile of the vintage, along with a dark edge of tar, baker’s chocolate and salted licorice that courses underneath. The long finish lets the fruit play out, keeping singed alder and chai spice hints in the background. Smolderingly seductive. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Cão, Sousão and Tinta Roriz. Best from 2035 through 2060. 3,500 cases made.” 98 points, Wine Spectator — JM

“The 2017 Vintage Port is a field blend, mostly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão and Sousão, aged for 18 months in old wood vats. It comes in with 99 grams of residual sugar. This was bottled in May 2019, about a month before tasting, but I made sure at least some of it had a lot of air. Aromatic, wonderfully fragrant and laced with eucalyptus, this then shows typical Noval focus and power. A couple of hours in a glass simply increased the power. More intense than the very fine 2016, it grips the palate and shows rather significant astringency….  2030 – 2075” – 97 points – Wine Advocate  (MS)
