A great example of the very fine value now found in the dry white table wines coming from the steep slopes of the Douro Valley in Portugal. Intended for early consumption, this “Planalto” is blend of 20% Viosinho, 20% Malvasia Fina, 15% Gouveio (Godello), 15% Arinto, 15% Codega, 10% Rabigato and 5% Moscatel fermented at a controlled cool temperature in stainless steel tanks for about 20 days. 12.5% alcohol. pH 3.3
The wine is bright in color with a glint of youthful greenish highlights. The complex aromas are redolent of white and tropical fruits with hints of citrus and flowers, and a touch of minerality. Very fresh and vibrant on the palate, with uplifting acidity. The finish is long and tapered.
Although not rated at this time, Wine Spectator has consistently scored the “Planalta” 89 points over the last four vintages.
