$30 for a Chilean Riesling!! YIKES! It better be good! You’d better believe it! Back in 2006 the Silva family’s pioneering spirit sent them to the “lakes region” in the remote southern Chile where they planted vineyards on the trumao (sandy volcanic ash) soils of the Osorno Valley. The Futrono Vineyard is planted on a hillside overlooking Lake Ranco. The cool clime and high annual rainfall creates a very short, risky growing season and harvest.
The grapes are hand harvested and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is refined in bottle for one year before release. 11.7% alcohol.
Honestly, we were impressed with this bone dry Riesling’s great crunchy acidity, crisp green apple and citrus toned fruit, and slate-like minerality. Temperature controlled stainless steel fermentation. For a non-German or Austrian Riesling, I would place it in a league with finest from Clare Valley Australia.
