Under the circumstances, maybe the early release of the 2018 is a good omen, but Sans Liege’s The Offering is traditionally released in the Fall so it has a place on the holiday table. We opened our sample bottle of the 2018 last night to make certain it was again worthy! Yes, indeed! Slightly different as the usual inclusion of Viognier is absent. And the Santa Barbara fruit has been more evenly distributed with a little less Grenache (39%), about the same Syrah (36%) and a little more Mourvedre (29%). But the results are the same and what you like; expansive, ripe, spicy, dark purple plum and black cherry fruits. Nor has winemaker Curt Schalchlin ever been shy about alcohol, but this effort is only 15.2%. He is on a roll! The 2016 was Schalchlin’s highest rated by Wine Spectator at 94 points #20/2019 Top 100, while the 2017 was just awarded a stellar 92 points in April.
Oh yes! The price remains the same. $29 at the winery. $24.95 here!
