This wine is delightful and refreshing coastal white, loved for its rich stone fruit flavors, a hint of salinity, and zippy acidity.
Adega de Monaçao was founded in 1958, initiated by 25 winegrowers. It’s from the region of Vinhos Verdes near the Minho River which shares its border with Galicia – Spain. Here with the Atlantic Oceans influence, the Alvarinho (albariño) grape is known to flourish beautifully. The winery uses modern techniques to make this wine, and the quality is fantastic. Like all good Albarino, the perfect pairing is with shellfish and crustaceans.
This is a serious white wine from Portugal at an even more seriously low great price! It is not spritzy and/or featherweight as some whites from Vinhos Verdes can be…. No, this is a stainless steel fermentation, allowed to rest on the lees, blending Alvarinho and Trajadura. It is layered and graceful on the palate and long in the finish, yet still possesses lovely, enchanting aromatics. Its freshness and vivacity are top notch, with a surprisingly rich texture balanced by a zesty acidity, spicy lemon and lime flavors, and a saline minerality.
