Description

Discover Ted Lemon’s biodynamic Burn Cottage Pinot Noir project in Pisa-Central Otago (South Island) New Zealand.  Here in California’s Russian River Valley of Sonoma, Ted Lemon’s Littorai is one of the most coveted Pinot Noir, only available if you are fortunate to be a mailing list member or qualified fine dining restaurant.  Now without question, Burn Cottage has earned its reputation as one of this famous region’s premier Pinot Noir producers.

The 2019 Burn Cottage “Moonlight Race” Pinot Noir combines fruit from both of its highly esteemed estate Cottage Vineyard (Lowdown) and estate Sauvage Vineyard (Bannockburn).  The Moonlight Race particularly over delivers for the money considering Burn Cottage’s designated vineyard wines are $65+ a bottle!!  Only about 350 cases were imported for the US market.

Since conception in 2002, Ted Lemon consults throughout the growing season, and flies over to NZ periodically to monitor the vineyards and make the wine.  Totaling 24 acres, the biodynamically farmed property is owned by the Sauvage brothers of Kansas state, who are distributors of fine wine, and also own Koehler-Ruprecht estate in the Pfatz region of Germany.  Moonlight Race is a spontaneous, indigenous fermentation and spends the wine spends 12 months in French oak (20-30%) before bottling.
