Description

“Trinity Hill is one of the premier wineries on New Zealand’s North Island.…Trinity Hill winemaker Warren Gibson is one of the country’s true stars…” Dan Berger, Sept. 2, 2018

In 2001, wine producers and winegrowers with land in this special area of Hawke’s Bay, formed the GIMBLETT GRAVELS Winegrowers Association in order to, collectively, promote wines from this unique and distinctive wine growing region of the world.

The GIMBLETT GRAVELS brand combines the French concept of terroir with modern day thinking to define, protect and market wine. In what is believed to be a first for winegrowers in the New World – wine growing countries outside Europe – GIMBLETT GRAVELS wines are based on the ultimate designation of their district according to a tightly specified soil type.

The GIMBLETT GRAVELS WINE GROWING DISTRICT, covering just 800ha, is strictly determined by the gravelly soils laid down by the old Ngaruroro River, which were exposed after a huge flood in the 1860’s.

Everyone clamors for Trinity’s iconic and luxury Homage Syrah.  However, there is great value to be also found in the winery’s “Gimblett Gravels” Syrah.  Both wines are produced from the gravelly soils of the “Gimblett Gravels” appellation.  Read about Gimblett Gravels’ > terroir here!

We were privy to a private appointment tasting and tour at Trinity Hill when we bicycled along back country roads to explore the Gimblett Gravels area of Hawkes Bay in January of 2018.  Since that time, we have always held the winery in the highest regard.

The 2019 has just arrived and once again it most certainly OVER DELIVERS!  No other ratings, but a passionate 96 point rating from James Suckling (see below)!  LIMITED!  This is going to evaporate into thin air so don’t delay!  Should be $29.95 – BUT NOW JUST $27.95 A BOTTLE!

James SucklingScore: 96 Points February 6, 2021 – “Wow. The white-pepper and black-fruit combination here is impressively fresh and vibrant. Really bursting from the glass. The palate has such fine-cut tannins that form a crisp outer shell around very juicy red and dark berries. Cascading, grainy finish. Superb. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”
