“Impeccably balanced, Picq’s 2020 Chablis Dessus la Carrière unwinds in the glass with scents of crisp white peach and linden blossom mingled with oyster shell and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and satiny, it’s bright and precise, with a fleshy core of fruit and a long, saline finish. Drink date: 2023 – 2037
The 2020 vintage represents another fine success for Didier Picq, who presides over this small domaine located in the sleepy village of Chichée. One of the finest exponents of tank-fermented and tank-matured Chablis, Picq’s concentrated, incisive wines are always worth seeking out, and the 2020 vintage is his finest since 2017 in terms of overall balance, precision and consistency. His range of Chablis AOC bottlings includes several cuvées that would embarrass many loftier appellations, and it’s complemented by two premiers crus, Vaucoupin and Vosgros. Perhaps Picq’s wines remain the preserve of the cognoscenti because he doesn’t own any of Chablis’s grand cru slopes? Whatever the reason, it emphatically has nothing to do with the quality of his wines, which number among the region’s best in their alliance of depth and detail, power and purity. This is an address that comes warmly recommended.” 93 points, Wine Advocate (William Kelley) – July 2022
Explosive, but very refined and pure with fresh streaks of salinity. Unoaked.
