Description

Giusto Occhipinti of COS is a benchmark producer in the Vittoria appellation of Sicily, and certainly one of the most important and influential producers in all of Sicily if not Italy as a whole. The winery was founded in 1980 by three friends, Giambattista Cilia, Giusto Occhipinti, and Cirino Strano. The initials of their last names form the winery’s name.

100% Estate organically grown Frappato from Vittoria area in southern Sicily.  15-year-old vines, hand harvested.  300-meter elevation, flat exposure. Red clay soils with sand, silica & limestone. Extended maceration deepens the color.  Spontaneous fermentation on indigenous yeasts, and aging in concrete vats for 8 months.  Bright red. Floral red berries and aromatic herbs on the nose and in the mouth. Enters bright and juicy with a fresh floral red berry with a slightly tart finish that is nicely persistent. A lovely easygoing red that is delicious with a light chill for summertime drinking.
