Description
Santa Barbara “Chateauneuf-du-Pape”!
M5 is Margerum’s very drinkable flagship wine. It is modeled after top wines from southern Rhône – Châteauneuf-du-Pape . The M is for Margerum and the 5 is for 5 grapes: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and Counoise.
M5 is a Grenache-based blend and has elegance and layers making it a versatile table and food wine. In the summertime we love to put a light chill on this wine. It is extremely versatile and pairs well with just anything from fresh swordfish and salmon to dark meat poultry and especially grilled pork and beef or portobello mushroom!
The overlying presence of the Grenache’s ripe strawberry flavors initially impacts the palate, followed by a finish complete with hints of jam, cocoa, and dark berry contributions of Syrah and earthy Mourvèdre.
Syrah adds richness and power, Mourvèdre adds earthy, old world, Counoise adds aromatics of watermelon and Cinsault adds a spice component
Largely estate plus purchased grapes from Santa Barbara county, the wine is aged in 50% neutral puncheons and 50% neutral and with a few new barrels each vintage. Never racked.
The 2023 is a medium-bodied, well balanced and finely knit blend from eight-vineyard sites consisting of of 45% Grenache, 32% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 6% Cinsault and 7% Counoise. Floral aromas of purple violet and lilac on the nose lead into a silky smooth display on the palate, where generous berry flavors are framed by finely integrated tannins.
