Description

The Azienda Agricola Pala (or Pala estate) was founded in Sardinia, Italy, in 1950.  Mario Pala is now the third generation of the family taking care of the vines of his family with the help of his wife Rita and the fourth generation of the family represented by his sons Massimiliano, Elisabetta and Mariantonietta.

Where Sardegna is widely accepted as the benchmark for the finest Vermentino, this reputation has been earned by producers from the northeastern coastal Gallura region of the island.  Pala’s Stellato Vermentino is the first and still only Vermentino produced in south-Sardinia to be awarded the coveted Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso.  First the 2014 vintage, and now every vintage since and including the 2022 as announced in the annual 2025 Gambero Rosso guide (that’s NINE consecutive vintages if your not paying attention!!).

Pala’s Stellato Vermentino is sourced from its sandy limestone hillside 60 year old estate vineyard Is Crabilis at about 800 feet above sea level near Ussana in the Province of Southern Sardinia about 12 miles north Cagliari.

With the vineyard’s indigenous yeast, the handpicked Vermentino ferments in temperature controlled (12 ° C) stainless steel tanks.   After the fermentation has completed, the wine remains in contact with the fine lees for about 5 months before bottling.

“Intense straw color with greenish reflections, brilliant. Intense and persistent aroma with floral and vegetal aromas of Mediterranean scrub and summer fruits. Pleasant taste-olfactory correspondence, warm and full of good thickness and lively acidity, balanced.”
