Description
In North-Eastern Hungary, Tokaji-Hegyalja is one of the great wine regions of the world. Its unique qualities warranted the world’s first appellation system — over 100 years before Bordeaux. For nearly 400 years, it has served as a diplomatic tool to court foreign powers and has become so ingrained in Hungarian identity that it’s part of their National Anthem.
The botrytis aszu affected furmint was added and produced in fermenting wine for 24 hours. Then aged for 2.5 years in 220-300L oak barrels.
A great wine of a unique vintage. Compelling aromatics of orange blossom and
white flowers, pineapple, peach and apriot penetrate the olefactory. Round and seamlessly smooth on the palate with fresh acidity extending into the long tapered finish. Residual sugar dominates but never cloys. A beautiful Botrytis character is developing. Great aging potential for decades. Enjoy this elixir with desserts like poached pears or praline pound cake, or goose liver dishes, and blue vein cheeses.
