Description

The Cantina Gulfi NeroMaccarj 2019 is an acclaimed, organic 100% Nero d’Avola red wine from the Pachino region of southern Sicily, known for its complex character, depth of fruit, and elegant structure.
  • Vinous: Describes the wine as “very pretty” but holding power in reserve, with dark depths of black cherry, brown spice, minty herbs, clove, and crushed raspberries. It is soft and supple on the palate, with a finish of blood orange and rosy dark chocolate.
  • James Suckling: The 2019 vintage received positive critic scores, described as having dried plums, dark cherries, figs, and warm cinnamon on the nose, with a flavorful and juicy palate, tight yet silky tannins, and a long, intense finish.
  • SUPERIORE.DE: Praises it as a true “wine of character” that is powerful but not overpowering, with impressive structure and finesse, and a long, almost salty finish.
  • Grape Variety: 100% Nero d’Avola.
  • Origin: Produced from a single vineyard called “Màccari” near Pachino, a hilly landscape where Nero d’Avola originated. The soil is dense limestone clay.
  • Winemaking: Organically farmed, with some ungrafted vines over 50 years old. It undergoes a long maceration and ages for two years in used barriques and large wooden barrels.
  • Aroma: Complex and intense, with notes of red fruits, blackberry, vanilla, black cherry, tobacco, sweet spices, and Mediterranean herbs.
  • Palate: Full-bodied, fruity, balanced, and harmonious, with great structure, persistent flavor, and fine, silky tannins.  14.% alcohol.
  • Appearance: Intense ruby red with purple reflections.
  • Pairings: Excellent with red meat, game, and mature cheeses.
