Description

Founded in 1969, when Fiorella Lepri took a leap of faith and purchased the property from the Florentine noblewoman Emma Bizzarri. Maintaining her legacy through the name of the winery, “Casa Emma.”

“Gran Selezione” designated Chianti Classico represents the pinnacle of grape growing and winemaking in the region, even more prestigious than the “Reserva” DOCG classification.  The fruit must be sourced only from the winery’s estate vineyards.   Currently regulations require at least 80% Sangiovese (up to 20% indigenous or international varieties) and a minimum of 30 months extended aging and refinement before release (2027 – 90%).  Rarely does one find Gran Selezione priced lower than $75 and more often than not usually exceeding $100 a bottle.  The wines showcase great structure, balance and refinement, and are very age worthy.  Typically the wine should be paired with robust and richly flavored dishes.   2019 is a particularly exceptional vintage for Tuscany and Chianti Classico.

“An intense, fruity style, showing tension between its elegant side and firm, dusty tannins, while raspberry, cherry, red currant, rose hip, mint, pine and mineral flavors ply the space between. The finish is austere, yet this reveals lovely fruit and energy. Best from 2026 through 2045. 800 cases made, 350 cases imported”. – 94 points, Wine Spectator – Published on October 31, 2023,
