Description

“Historical” is a project that originates thanks to a profound knowledge of the land, exactly from a small isolated plot located within the historic vineyards of Montecarotto, in the Castelli di Jesi Classico area. “Historical” is the story of a project and of a goal, a wine destined for refinement over 5 years before revealing itself, with the romantic and only aim of being counted among the greatest Italian and world excellences of wines produced by non-aromatic white varietals.

Practicing certified sustainable organic farming the low yielding (2.46 tons per acre) 50 plus year old Verdicchio vines (double guyot-arched cane trellised) are typically hand picked at the end of September and into early October.  Situated situated at about 310 meters above sea level, on a hill facing east, in the highest part of the portion dedicated to the Vecchie Vigne (old vines) the Verdicchio grape finds a particularly favorable soil, very deep, loamy and fresh.

After a light pressing, the free run must is rapidly cooled and then goes through static decantation. The fermentation, in steel tanks at a temperature ranging from 16 to 18°C, lasts for 15-20 days. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation.  The wine then spend another 18 months in concrete tanks, during which the wine remains in continuous contact with its lees. This is followed by the racking of the must by natural sedimentation into another small stainless-steel container. The wine rests here for about 36 months until bottling, which takes place at least 6 months before being released.

Awards include Top Wine by Slow Wine 2025.  Vini d’ Italia Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchiere 2025, Doctor Wine 2025 96 points, James Suckling 94 points.

I might also add, Gambero Rosso awarded Umani Ronchi its Winery of the Year award for 2024.
