Description

In 1998 after an extensive search in California, and prompting by Tablas Creek and Opus 1, French winemaker Stephan Asseo decided to transplant and purchase his L’Aventure’s estate in the rolling hills of the western reaches of the Willow Creek District in the Paso Robles AVA!  Twenty five years later, L’Aventure is now considered by most as one of the premier wineries in California specializing in Bordeaux and Rhone varieties.

On our recent trip to Paso Robles, we had an opportunity to taste L’Aventure’s latest 2020 releases.  We were able to procure small amounts of the Estate Cuvee, Cote a Cote, and Optimus.

A blend of 58% Syrah, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Optimus has a deep ruby color and a deep core of red and black cherries, chargrill, thyme, charcuterie and desiccated violet. The full-bodied palate is light on its feet with juicy acidity and approachable grainy tannins, and it has a long, layered finish. 2023-2028 – 95 points, RP Wine Advocate
