Description
Many our Italian-Tuscan wine aficionados will recognize the historic Montalcino winery Castello Romitorio for its very highly rated and consistently standout Brunelli. Some of you have had the foresight to order the epic 2021 vintage of Romitorio’s excellent of Brunello di Montalcino which just received ratings from 95 to 98 points by Wine Spectator (SOLD OUT and expected to finally arrive in early May). Don’t be dismayed if you missed, as here is a NEW opportunity to purchase one of the BEST import values in today’s topsy turvy wine market.
I was able to latch on to the importer’s only remaining nine cases of Romitorio’s fruit-endowed 2022! Sangiovese always seems to attract the spotlight in Tuscany, so much so we often forget that the Bordeaux varietals and even Syrah are grown successfully there and can produce extraordinary and delicious wines. The over-delivering 2022 Romitorio Rosso IGT is the perfect example! A stylish, fruit ladened Super Tuscan combining Petit Verdot and Syrah sourced from the Scansano region south of Bolgheri, the fruit is fermented in stainless steel tanks, followed by a period of aging in concrete before bottling. A blockbuster red but drinking incredibly well now with the upside potential to evolve in the cellar if you can resist opening. In fact, if you are planning to do any slow-smoked BBQ beef ribs, tri-tip or brisket entertaining this summer, here is your perfect pairing!
“Blackberry, boysenberry, bacon fat and violet aromas and flavors highlight this supple red. Beautifully integrated, with polished tannins and lively acidity driving the fruit-stained aftertaste. Syrah and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2038. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.” – 94 points, Wine Spectator
