We have been purchasing Laurel since its inception in 2006, and now this very serious wine from the 2022 vintage has reached a stage where it can no longer be considered a “second” label for those ferments that were declassified from inclusion in Clos Erasmus ($300+).  Laurel certainly has established itself as LAUREL and one of the finest from the Priorat region of Spain!

I am very confident you will find the new 2022 vintage is as compelling as ever.  All were WOWED by a sample bottle we opened and shared with friends at dinner last Sunday night.  Similarly structured as previous vintages with about 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% Cabernet from organically farmed “younger Priorat vines”, this vintage has spent about 21 months in an assortment of neutral oak tanks, conic barrels first used to produce the legendary Clos Erasmus, and  concrete eggs.  Perfectly balanced, the resulting wine cuts a fresh, very intense and deep swath of pure joy across the palate exhibiting power but restraint and finesse.  While previous vintages have received consistent and steadfast mid-ninety ratings, I believe this vintage will reach even loftier heights.  Cellaring potential is at least 10 to 15+ years.
