Description
Kerner is cool-climate varietal best suited to the dolomite-highlands of Italy’s Alto Adige where the majority of it is now grown. The varietal also thrives in the German regions of Pfalz and Rheinhessen, as well as Austria and Slovenia. Kerner runs the gamete and can easily be mistaken for a Riesling with its floral notes, as well as tart green apple, apricot, citrus-tropical fruit, fresh spring herbs and mineral salinity.
“Aromas recalling citrus, Spanish broom, hay and botanical herb leads the expressive nose on the delicious 2023 Kerner from Abbazia di Novacella. The savory, medium-bodied palate shows structure and finesse, offering apricot, yellow peach, grapefruit and smoky mineral notes while racy acidity lends tension. 93 points – Kerin O’Keefe Abv: 13.5%
“The 2023 Kerner is delicately floral in the glass, with a whiff of sweet spice and candied lime forming its bouquet. This is built on energy with vibrant acidity and a combination of saline minerals and tart citrus, adding a zesty character throughout. The 2023 reverberates with tension through the long and cheek-puckering finale with hints of chamomile and lemon zest.” – 91 points, Vinous
