Description
Not since the wine producing husband and wife duo of Bo Barrett (Chateau Montelena) and Heidi Barrett-Peterson (Screaming Eagle) has Napa Valley crowned such another dynamic partnership of winemaking royalty!
Favia Erickson Winegrowers is a collaboration between Annie Favia and Andy Erickson. Over the years, winemaker Andy Erickson has stamped his name on such Napa Valley “hall of fame” producers as Screaming Eagle, Harlan, Dalla Valle, Bond, Staglin, etc. While Annie Favia, a viticulturists was mentored by the legendary David Abreu.
Together as husband and wife, they began producing Favia in 2003 from small vineyards around their Coombsville AVA house and standout vineyard sites familiar to them from the Oakville AVA. Long story short, Favia has evolved to become one of Napa Valley’s most highly rated and in demand cult wines.
In 2023 they took the plunge and purchased a spectacular 86 acre site in Oakville. Read Wine Spectator’s editor James Molesworth’s article here “Flavia Play for the Future Is Now Bearing Fruit” (January 13th).
Already the 2023 Napa Valley vintage is drawing comparisons to the very finest this century. With the addition of the Oakville estate, there are a whopping 3,000 cases of 2023 Favia Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley!! I predict this wine will absolutely disappear in the blink of an eye!
“In a new beginning for Favia, an equal blend of Coombsville and Oakville represents the best of both appellations—the fresh, savory, mineral edge of the former intertwining with the deep flavor and floral lift of the latter. Layers of fruit, supported by graphite, dried herbs, flowers and spices, lead to a luscious yet refined palate with finely tuned tannins and a bright line of acidity. A complete, balanced expression of Napa. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Excellent. Drink or hold.” – 98 points, James Suckling
This blend of Oakville and Coombsville includes a significant proportion of Cabernet Franc, combining Oakville’s power with Coombsville’s freshness. The wine unfurls with vibrant red fruit and black cherry notes, offering a full spectrum of Cabernet Sauvignon character—from juicy red, black, and blue fruits to sagebrush, thyme, and rosemary aromatics. There is a generous intensity of California fruit, tempered by graphite and slate minerality and a core of ripe cassis character. Positively delicious, the wine balances grace and generosity with well-defined structure and a firm acid backbone. – 98 points, Decanter
