Description
JUST ARRIVED! Always one of our favorite bone-dry German Rieslings when we can get our hands on some!
Porphyr is a a type of hard igneous rock with a distinctive texture of coarse crystals embedded in a finer-grained matrix. The Wagner Stempel “Porphyr” has always been one of favorite values in bone-dry, minerally Rieslings to be found and this is no exception. A powerful synergy on the palate is almost mesermizing. A blending of two grand cru sites, Heerkretz and Hollberg, this vintage is fermented in 60% barrels and 40% steel.
“Here’s an amazing village wine that has a staggering mineral and wild herb intensity. The way that the concentration and vivitality are exactly balanced takes your breath away. So refined, but also with massive wet stone notes right through the medium-bodied palate. So pure and crystalline in the very filigreed finish. From organically grown grapes.” – 96 points – James Suckling
“Pure nose and masses of fruit on the mid palate with a certain salinity. Again, such precision!” – Jancis Robinson
“The 2023 Riesling Siefersheim Porphyr was made chiefly from grapes grown in the topmost reaches of the east Facing Heerkretz site. Aromatic bergamot plunges into creamy apricot on the nose, all subtle yet really clear. The palate is a picture of juiciness, brilliance and clarity, with beautifully ripe acidity and phenolics that remind of nectarine skin. Juicier than usual, but also salty and animating, this is absolutely fresh and vibrant. (Bone-dry)” – 93 points – Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous
