Description
Located in the southern area of Lake Garda in the Lombardia region of northern Italy, this unique clone of Trebbiano di Lugana (“Turbina”) comes from Ottella’s estate 12 hectare vineyard “Le Creete”; an ancient lake bed formerly fed by glaciers leaving mineral deposits resulting in unusual white clay soils.
The majority of the handpicked fruit is gently crushed whole bunches, while the rest is lightly destemmed by oscillation. The slow and cool fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tank. The wine is racked off the gross lees by natural settling, and then aged for another 6-8 months on its fine lees.
Intense golden yellow color. Fresh and compelling on the nose with immediate exotic hints of pineapple and notes of grapefruit. It unfolds pleasantly with a remarkable saline-mineral, “chalky” sensation. It is a wine with character and great aromatic elegance. Taste expectations are satisfied by its richness, consistency and balance.
“This fresh white is supple and balanced, with a subtle streak of salinity underscoring flavors of yellow apple, pear, pink grapefruit pith and dried tarragon. Drink now. 2,500 cases made, 250 cases imported.” – 89 points, Wine Spectator
