Description
You may recall on our trip to the Greek island of Crete a few years back, we discovered the white grape variety VIDIANO. We stocked two of our favorite finds from that trip, and the wines have proven very popular primarily for their refreshing and tasty value. A new Vidiano discovery for us was a delicious sample bottle of the 2025 Diamantakis Vidiano dropped off to us by a Greek import rep that we shared at the tasting bar last Saturday. The Diamatakis family has a long tradition of viticulture and high-quality winemaking which led to the creation of their eponymous winery in 2007. The family farms 150 acres of limestone heavy soils at 1300 feet in the foothills of Mount Ida (the famed mythical birthplace of Zeus) in the province of Malevizi.
All the farming and harvest is by hand. The grapes are fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel tank where the wine rests on the fine lees for three months. Most impressive is the wine’s vitality, creamy texture and nuanced minerality: dry, slightly herb and floral tinged with green apple, pear, quince, and citrus with flinty minerality. Some feel Vidiano is somewhat similar to unoaked Chardonnay. So well received on Saturday, we have processed sufficient orders for delivery this Friday if you want to be included. Reserve now at just $25.95 a bottle.
