2016 Vilmart Brut Grand Cellier d’Or, Rilly-la-Montagne, Marne, Champagne – WS96

$119.95

Description

A tremendous value for tete d’ cuvee Champagne.  In comparison, the 2013 Dom Perignon which also received the same very lofty 96 point rating is priced at $250 a bottle.

This should be your special celebratory Champagne for the holiday season, a New Year’s Eve toast with your love, or significant anniversary!  Or how about a lobster roll!

Organic and sustainable viticulture practices.  A manual harvest.  Then fermented and aged ten month in 60-gallon French oak barrels.  A cuvee blend composed of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir of classified Premier Cru vineyards from 50+ years old vines in Rilly-la-Montagne (Vallee de la Marne).  Forty-two months on the lees in the bottle while cellaring.  No malolactic fermentation.  After disgorgement a dosage of .7g/l.

“Gorgeous aromas and flavors of nectarine, chopped almond, dried white cherry, ground cardamom and ginger, lime blossoms, graphite and espresso crema are immediately present on the mouthwatering palate of this elegant Champagne. Buoyed by bright, well-integrated acidity, the flavors glide along on the fine, creamy mousse, underscored by a racy streak of salinity that drives the clean-cut finish. Shows beautiful harmony and expression. Disgorged October 2020. Drink now through 2036.” – 96 points, Wine Spectator
