Description
Ever since we first visited Chiara Boschis in 2005 and spent an afternoon in her Barolo cellar indulging in the numerous bottles she opened for us…..and barrel samples, along with an enormous wheel of Stravecchio, the local “Parmigiano” which makes the perfect pairing with Nebbiolo….we have been huge fans of her. Best known for her legendary Cannubi Barolo, reviews for her Mosconi Barolo continues to get better and better (see below WA96/WS95/DE95). This new release equals the always high ratings for her coveted Cannubi, but not quite so expensive. Here is predicting Mosconi will become the new darling for Barolo collectors. Perfect with porchetta or mushroom-truffle parmesan risotto!
“Chiara Boschis has recently purchased more vineyards in the Mosconi cru located at a cool 370 meters in elevation in Monforte d’Alba. Sourcing its fruit from an organic 1.9-hectare parcel, the 2018 Barolo Mosconi is available in a slightly larger production of 9,000 bottles. This is terrific news for those who love the focus and precision that Chiara Boschis is known for. The Mosconi carries generous fruit weight and volume over a streamlined mouthfeel and tight tannins. The wine ends with fresh notes of blackberry, plum and wild rose.” – 96 points, Wine Advocate (Monica Larner)
“This red puts it all together—macerated cherry and plum fruit, a silky texture, vibrant structure and elegance—without sacrificing power or harmony. Complex and long, with a haunting finish that provides rose, menthol, licorice and iron accents. Best from 2025 through 2043. 800 cases made, 175 cases imported.” – 95 points, Wine Spectator (Bruce Sanderson)
