Description

Massolino owns 1.2 hectares of this vineyard cru where the soil consists of marl and limestone, and the land enjoys southerly exposure at about 1000 feet above sea level. The grapes grown in this vineyard are exceptional, thanks to the geological and morphological characteristics that seem to have evolved over time for the sole purpose of guaranteeing the best possible quality.  The vines, which have an average age of 60 years, give the grapes an expressive potency of rare magnitude.

Massolino Barolo Parafada is a prestigious, full-bodied Italian red wine from Serralunga d’Alba in Piedmont, made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, known for its intense aromas of red fruit, herbs, and spice, powerful structure, firm tannins, and exceptional aging potential, pairing well with rich meats and aged cheeses. It’s considered one of Massolino’s top wines, showcasing the mineral-rich soils of the Parafada vineyard.

“Rich and laced with strawberry, cherry, raspberry, licorice, tar, menthol and mineral flavors, this Barolo is juicy and bursting with energy. Solidly built yet remains harmonious, its dense tannins tempered by the ripe berry aftertaste. Shows fine complexity and freshness. Best from 2030 through 2050. 410 cases made.” – 97 points, Wine Spectator (Jan 2026)

Wine Advocate (Monica Larner): 97 Points. Described as having a botanical feel with crushed oregano, cassis, wild cherry, and a ferrous, rusty-nail note typical of the site.
