Description
50% Cabernet Sauvignon – 50% Cabernet Franc
(Pier) “Luigi” Tolaini is a real rags-to-riches story. As a peasant boy he left Tuscany penniless and returned some 40 years later as a northeastern America-Canada transportation mogul and ultra-millionaire with a simple goal to produce Tuscany’s greatest red wines. After four years of searching, he settled on vineyard sites just outside the prestigious commune of Castelnuova Berardenga in the southern most Chianti Classico zone.
San Giovanni is the name of Tolaini’s estate vineyard near the town of San Giovanni a Cerreto. In the church adjacent to our vineyard there is a painting by Rutilo MANETTI depicting Saint John the Evangelist (“San Giovanni”) offering to Mary, a chalice with a serpent, the international symbol of Saint John and chosen for this label to honor this historic land that bears his name.
The 2021 Valdisanti is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon with 50% Cabernet Franc.
Valdisanti ’21 is another true bona fide BELL RINGER! The same organic farming practices, and care and attention to detail is given to the selection and laborious sorting and de-stemming process. Fermented in temperature controlled French oak cask while macerating for 25 days. Then racked, blended and aged for 6 months on the lees in 70% new French barrique – 30% one year used. Racked again off the lees and aged for a total of 16 months. Bottled unfiltered.
“Focused like a laser, this racy red features black currant, black cherry, cedar, licorice and graphite aromas and flavors. A balanced version, with a light dusting of tannins shoring up the finish. Excellent length. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2038.” – 94 points, Wine Spectator
